Workshop Overview
In this workshop, students will learn how to create a paper pattern from their favorite clothes (without disassembling them), and use that to make an entirely new garment. Students will also work on existing garments (that students bring in) to rework into something better suited to the desires of the wearer, using practical alteration and mending techniques, to more creative improvements like over-dying and embellishing. This workshop will cover all the cursory knowledge needed for making original garments, such as choosing fabrics, working with paper patterns, and a variety of sewing construction techniques. Students need to have a basic knowledge of the sewing machine for this class, and some garment-making skills would be helpful, but every technique will be taught in a beginner-friendly format. Open to all skill levels.
