Enriching lives through art and craft

Arrowmont Diversity Values Statement 2020

Arrowmont stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. We condemn the violence perpetuated upon the Black community and the systemic racism that prevents equity. We acknowledge that our work begins with us therefore our first step will be to undertake several diversity, equity, and inclusivity training sessions. Our training will include multiple sessions over the next six months with experts representing diverse voices, with the goal of helping our organization to develop the additional skills and tools necessary for us to do our part in dismantling racism. We hope to be better equipped to advocate for anti-racism and provide meaningful support to the societal change so critical to our nation. In addition, it will help us in developing a map for true diversity and inclusion within our organization including our board, staff, faculty, student body and campus community. We will gladly share our progress and resources with anyone interested in a similar program, either individually or at their institutions.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts believes that expression through art is vital to human connection. As such, we encourage and welcome students of all backgrounds to join in that inclusive community. Arrowmont programming is far richer and more meaningful when a diversity of perspectives, ideas, and voices come together. Arrowmont honors and welcomes all students including ability, age, ethnicity, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, religion or beliefs. The Arrowmont staff and board strive to create a safe space for all to participate in art education and artistic expression.

In addition to this work, we are actively working to develop new programming and outreach initiatives that reflect these goals. Arrowmont is committed to this ongoing and long journey towards creating an inclusive, diverse arts and crafts community that welcomes and supports everyone.
