An exploration of the variety of effects that can be accomplished with the right colors and compositions with fused glass.

Techniques

  • Along with the fundamentals of fused glass, students will learn how to design a pattern, nip and cut glass, grind, and arrange the glass for a one of a kind piece of art.

Materials

  • Oceanside Fusible Glass 96 COE
  • Glass frit and glass stringers
  • Glass cutting tools, grinders, and nippers
  • Glass glue

Outcomes

  • A better understanding of the principles of compatability in fused glass, firing schedules and the effects that can be accomplished at different temperatures along with a one of a kind piece of art created by you.

Artist Bio

Gayle Haynie grew up in Michigan, but moved to the South in 1999, splitting her time between Florida and Georgia, before relocating to Western North Carolina in 2012. She has always been involved in the arts, but when she discovered glass in 1990 a whole new world opened up for her. A world of color and light! She started with stained glass panels, but soon expanded her explorations to include fused glass and hand painting on glass with glass enamels, often combining all techniques in her artistic statements. Gayle works in series, executes one-of-a-kind designs and welcomes custom orders, enjoying the challenge of creating personalized art for individuals. She works in a beautiful, light-filled studio in Waynesville and offers classes or studio visits by appointment. A wide variety of work is available in her home gallery. glassbygayle.com

Workshop Description

In this workshop, students will learn the process of creating a fused glass holiday memory sun catcher or glass plaque for framing. Select from a vibrant assortment of art glass, frit, noodles and stringers to compose your own unique design. Explore how to add depth and individuality to your glass by utilizing the techniques of layering and mosaic assembly. Items will be fired on site for shipping at a later date.
