Workshop Overview

In this workshop, students will explore the texture and surface potential of hand-woven structures. Students will weave pattern drafts and tapestry on shared floor and frame looms. Paper pulp, dye, paint, ink, and other materials will be applied to emphasize and experiment with the woven surface.

  • Students will leave with a series of artworks combining floor and frame loom weaving, hand papermaking, and painting with dye, paint, and ink
  • Students will work communally and thread and weave on shared looms and warps

Artist Bio

Pazia Mannella received an MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University and a BFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She is an Assistant Professor and Fibers Area Head at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her work has been published in Digital Weaving Norway, Canadian Weekly Fibre Artist Interview: World of Threads Festival, Dutch Textiel Plus magazine, US Airways Magazine, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Weekly, and Philadelphia: Home. Her work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution affiliate Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, Chehalem Cultural Center, Museum of Texas Tech University, Amarillo Museum of Art, Yeiser Art Center, University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art & Design, Muskegon Museum of Art, The Dennos Museum Center, The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education, Urban Outfitters Headquarters, Snyderman-Works Galleries, Philadelphia Art Alliance, and The Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences Sculpture Garden. In 2023, she presented her creative research in a presentation at Praxis and Practice — A Digital Weaving Conference, Praxis Fiber Workshop (Cleveland, OH), Cleveland Institute of Art, (Cleveland, OH) and Kent State College of Art (Kent, OH). She has a solo exhibition at the World of Threads Festival 2023, Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
