Workshop Description

Woodcut is the earliest of all printmaking methods. In this workshop students will learn how to create black and white and color prints from one block. You will draw your image onto a birch plywood block and separate the color layers and carve the blocks after having different types of line carving after demonstrations on the execution of the line designs. The emphasis in this class is to introduce the novice to different types of wood, surface preparation, image design, carving techniques, tool maintenance, registration, inking and pressing a print. Participants can expect to complete a small edition of multicolor woodcut prints at the end of the workshop. Open to all skill levels, however this is a physically intense workshop.
