During this workshop students will explore the possibilities of clay when it is viewed and formed as a canvas for imagery and visual narratives. You will work with black underglaze and a variety of techniques including pointillism, sgraffito, and underglaze as watercolor. Class demonstrations will include how to paint detailed monochromatic imagery on a clay surface, ways of placing a graphite outline on a bisque surface free-hand and paper tracing, and using a graphite pencil outline to paint feathers with underglazes using a watercolor technique. Participants will also discover the tips and tricks to the instructor’s underglaze pointillism technique. This workshop will be exciting for artists new to clay as well as experienced ceramic artists wishing to add image rendering to their tool set. Open to all skill levels.
