John Lucas retired as a photographer for Tennessee Tech University where he worked for 27 years, and was known for his skills in photographing artwork. He has been working in wood since 1972 and turning since 1982. Lucas has had pieces in the American Association of Woodturners annual exhibition four times, a piece in the Best of Tennessee show in 2021, and received best of show in the 2023 Tennessee Association of Woodturners annual symposium. Lucas has demonstrated turning around the country for various clubs and symposiums, has demonstrated for the AAW symposium four times, and has had many articles published in every woodturning magazine.
In this workshop, students will learn about wood selection and grain orientation. The instructor will discuss wood movement problems, will show various hollowing techniques and finishing techniques. Students will work on various box decoration techniques including texture and coloring, and discuss inlay techniques.
