Workshop Description

Students can let imagination and creativity sparkle in this two-week session. In this workshop, students will consider two, three, four or even five shapes in wood, freestanding or as wall panels. Interconnected as forms, these shapes will also have surface and relief carvings related to the forms, giving illusions of depth and distance tricking our visual perception. This workshop will include powerpoint presentations, brainstorming and one-on-one ideations, so that students can design and build components, and then carve on surfaces. Individual daily check-ins and demos in simple joinery and carving will be presented. Students will learn safe use and techniques of all wood shop tools including stationary and hand-held power tools, carving tools and sharping of gouges to keep a keen edge. Open to all levels. Any student unfamiliar with either woodworking or with carving will get safe use and instructions on those techniques. Intermediate and advanced level students will be encouraged to discover challenges in any untapped skills in design or technique.

COURSE FEE: $1,675
