Mid-Range Surface Design Exploration

Workshop Overview

This workshop will expand students knowledge of surface design on hand-built clay forms. Students will explore techniques including sgraffito, mishima, stamping, wax and latex resist and more. Students will be introduced to proper usage of different studio equipment and tools and will gain confidence and understanding of the art form while developing their own artistic style. Students are encouraged to create their artworks using their imagination and apply the demonstrations only as tools of their vision.

Artist Bio

Lizbeth Navarro was born in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, and lives and works in Los Angeles. She has taught handbuilding and surface design workshops at POT LA, Green and Bisque Clay House, Still Life Ceramics, Brentwood Art Center, and Inner-City Arts, and given lectures at Glendale Community College, Long Beach Community College, and the first Undocuprofessionals Conference among others. Her work has been exhibited at the Craft Contemporary Museum in Los Angeles, Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana, CA, Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine, CA, the Brea Gallery in Brea, CA and Northern Clay Center in St. Paul, MN. She holds a BFA from California State University Long Beach.
