Workshop Description
In this workshop students will learn surface carving skills that will allow them to embellish and transform plain wood into works of art. Demonstrations and hands-on work will include carving, basic design, color, and finishing techniques. Initial carving will be done on flat boards, and some will be transformed into wall-hung art. Participants are encouraged to bring wood objects from home (frames, items rescued from thrift shops, etc.) to create lathe-turned objects that suit their interests. Workshop time will be spent using micromotor powercarvers, because learning these techniques apply directly to the use of larger powercarving tools serving as a springboard for future large-scale work like furniture and sculpture. Woodburners, bandsaws, sanders, and files can be used as needed. This workshop is open to all skill levels, but good manual dexterity is necessary.
COURSE FEE: $775
