Workshop Overview

Plein air painting offers countless ways to grow as an artist when presented with challenges of changing light, color, and atmosphere. In this workshop, students will be guided through creating dynamic paintings outdoors with an applied system of the fundamentals. The instructor will encourage students to develop their own lens and voice, while also crediting the fundamentals of drawing, color theory, and composition to create successful paintings. The workshop will include slide presentations, demonstrations, sketchbook exercises, and guided feedback. Students will sharpen their observational skills while constructing engaging compositions, value structures, color palettes, and paint applications. With an emphasis on process over product, students will gain habits and skills to nourish their continued passion for painting outdoors. Accessible to students of all skill levels.
