During this workshop students will explore the basketmaking process of coiling southern longleaf pine needles using waxed linen thread. Material processing (dyeing and painting) and preservation with beeswax will also be covered in class. You will learn about the various stitches used to make both symmetrical and free-form shapes. There will be emphasis placed on incorporating texture, pattern, and color in your pieces while using a large sewing needle and a pair of sharp-pointed scissors. Class will include one-on-one instruction and lots of tips and ideas for further exploration. Open to all skill levels.
