Workshop at a glance

This workshop is a hands-on exploration of the art of handmade papermaking, where we will explore the timeless techniques of fiber preparation, sheet formation, embedding, embossing, and infusing vibrant colors into your creations. Guided by the wisdom of traditional papermakers, we will explore the endless possibilities of natural fibers, from the soft grace of cotton to the resilient strength of abaca. Each day, we will have demonstrations, discussions about paper as a versatile and artistic medium, and opportunities to experiment and create. Each participant will walk away with various handmade papers or sculptural elements, objects, and unique works of art, each carrying the essence of nature. This workshop welcomes artists and paper enthusiasts of all levels, offering an opportunity to unleash boundless creativity and explore the endless possibilities that natural fibers provide.

Artist Bio

Sanaz Haghani, an interdisciplinary artist based in Athens, Georgia, possesses a BFA in Graphic Design from Iran’s Sooreh Art Institute and an MFA in Printmaking and Book Arts from the University of Georgia. As a Part-Time Faculty member at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, she imparts her artistic expertise with teaching experience at institutions like the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking and the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.

Sanaz’s art has graced esteemed venues, including the Georgia Museum of Art and the Albany Museum of Art, earning her recognition as one of five artists chosen by the Georgia Committee for the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her work was prominently featured in the “Paper Routes: Women to Watch 2020” exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia.

She is acknowledged in publications like Voyage Atl and The Hand Magazine. Sanaz’s artistic journey has been enriched through residencies at distinguished institutions such as Constellation Studio, Arrowmont School of Arts, and Buffalo Art Press.
