Artist Bio
Ian Brownlee is a painter and muralist based in Asheville, North Carolina. He received his BFA from the Atlanta College of Art and studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. His work has been featured in various publications, including New American Paintings. Brownlee has painted several large-scale murals and exhibited his work in galleries across the country. He specializes in narrative and his paintings incorporate stories of history, ecology, and mythology.

Workshop Description
Students will learn about the basics of oil painting. The workshop will cover stretching canvas, drawing, painting, and varnishing. Participants will discover a variety of oil painting mediums and ways to properly take care of their finished works. Oil paints have a reputation for being difficult to use and slow drying, however you will learn that does not have to be the case. One-on-one instruction will help students discover their own style. You will leave class with a painting of your own design. Open to all skill levels.
