Workshop Description

In this workshop, students will create heads and figures to be displayed on the wall. Strategies for designing and building a wall piece will be demonstrated with an emphasis on using the figure as a canvas for imagery and text to create works that are comically impulsive, yet emotionally resonant and personal. Students will hand build with stoneware to create forms and parts that will then be assembled, carved, and decorated. Surface treatments will include layered colored slips, sgraffito, liquid wax with inlaid underglazes, and glazing techniques. Studio conversations will discuss content, gesture and proportions, the juxtaposition of 2D on 3D, and using a single object vs. multiple objects to create a piece. Open to all skill levels.

COURSE FEE: $690
