Paula Kovarik lives in Memphis, Tennessee and received her BA in Graphic Design from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. As the creative director and owner of Shades of Gray, Inc., a graphic design studio, she specialized in communications. Kovarik’s art has been recognized by several venues including the International Quilt Museum, the Grand Rapids Museum of Art, Quilt National and Fiberart International. She has been profiled in American Craft and Fiber Art magazines.
Realign, redirect, and reconsider stitching as an element of design in this fearless free-motion quilting workshop. This class will approach stitching as meditation, communication, introspection, and play and will broaden the scope of how stitching can enhance and refine the cloth surface. Translating line to thread, you will learn techniques to accept the imperfect, accelerate ideas, and stitch from the imagination. Exercises will provide new tools for seeing, interpreting, and completing concept-driven work. Participants will also explore the 2D and 3D dimensions of stitch. Open to all skill levels, however free-motion quilting experience a plus.
