Workshop at a glance

This workshop introduces the papermaking process using Cotton and Abaca fibers. Participants will have time to explore artistic techniques to create personally satisfying artwork based on their observations and individual voices.

Artist Bio

Sanaz Haghani is an interdisciplinary visual artist and educator based in Athens, Georgia. She has an MFA in printmaking and book arts from the University of Georgia and a BFA in graphic design from Sooreh Art Institute of Higher Education in Shiraz, Iran. Sanaz is adjunct instructor at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. She taught printmaking and papermaking at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Along with her teaching jobs, she is Exhibitions and Curatorial Vice President at North American Hand Papermakers.

Haghani presented work in solo and group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Her work is held in private and public collections, including the National Museum of Women in the Arts Permanent, Iowa State University, and Southern Graphics Council Archive.

Workshop Description

This workshop will lead the participants through creative papermaking techniques using natural fibers such as Cotton and Abaca. Participants will be instructed on how to prepare Cotton and Abaca fibers into pulp with Voith Paper Beater, sheet formation, embedding, embossing, coloring pulp, pressing, and drying. During this experiential workshop, participants will work individually and as a group to produce artwork, or sheets of paper for printing, bookbinding, installation, and other artistic projects, while enjoying the natural greenery and scenery at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Open to all skill levels.
