Artist Bio

Kat Cole is a studio artist and educator.  She received her MFA at East Carolina University and BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Cole’s work is internationally recognized and has been exhibited across Europe, Asia, and North America.  Her enamel work has been published in Lark Books’ 500 Enameled Objects, Metalsmith Magazine, Ornament, American Craft and Art Jewelry Magazine. Cole is included in numerous private and public collections including The Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, Racine Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Enamel Foundation and Houston Museum of Fine Art.

Workshop Description

This fast-paced workshop will be focused on creating 2-3 smaller enameled vessels or sculptural forms.  Students will have the option of working in copper or iron. Students will learn basic fabrication techniques such as scoring and bending, tabs, rivets and hydraulic press to make dynamic forms to enamel, as well as learn about cold connections and soldering for enameling. Students will also have the option to use the micro welder to assist in fabrication. Students will be sifting, spraying, and learning  a variety of enamel techniques to create richly colorful and textural surfaces.
