Judy Zugish is a basketry artist and educator who works out of her studio in Marysville, Washington. She is a co-founder of Fishsticks, a basketry school started in 1991 and began experimenting with garden fabrics in 1978. Zugish has had recent educational residencies and research in New Zealand and Australia.
In this workshop students will learn plaiting with naturals, open weave strategies, and bias concepts for basket making. Participants will also discover the possibilities with homegrown willow barks and flame strip copper. You will develop organic sculptural ideas and design to form, and your project will be matched to your experience. Throughout class there will be slides on willow cultivation, harvest, and prep techniques. This class is for basket makers and textile artists who are seeking to expand their technical skills and to integrate their artistic expression. Open to all skill levels.
