Artist Bio
Camela Guevara is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Charleston, South Carolina and taught fiber arts for 10 years. She received her BA from the College of Charleston. Guevara was North Charleston Artist-in-Residence 2017-2018 and visiting artist at the Gibbes Museum May 2021. She exhibited at the Gibbes Museum, Park Circle Gallery, ArtFields, Redux Contemporary Art Center, and Greenville Center for the Arts.
Workshop Description
In this workshop students will create a unique, custom garment start to finish; make a fit garment, or toile; and then use this to construct a final garment. Through classroom demonstrations you will learn basic machine sewing, fit adjustments, and surface design techniques such as hand embroidery, appliqué, fabric painting, and more to add personality to your handmade garments. By the end of the week, students will have a beautiful finished garment to cherish and wear for years to come. Open to all skill levels, however basic sewing machine skills will be helpful.
