Artist Bio
Jerry Bedor Phillips is an artist living and creating in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the building manager, studio assistant, and gallery coordinator for the Vanderbilt University Department of Art. He received his BFA degree in printmaking and drawing from Murray State University and his MFA degree in printmaking and drawing from Bradley University. His book binding experience includes several workshops and classes with artists Nicole Hand and Beth Linn. He has also worked as a book repair technician with conservator Ana Lyra in the Special Collections area of the Cullum Davis Library at Bradley University. He has led bookbinding workshops at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, the Williamson County School System, TN, and the Buchanan Arts Center in Nashville, TN.
Workshop Description
Learn to bind journals, sketchbooks, and notebooks during this weeklong workshop in basic bookbinding. In this introductory workshop students will get hands on experience with traditional binding techniques such as the coptic, French tape and Strap bindings as well as learning basic book art structures such as tunnel books, accordion folds, and flag books. Students will leave with a small library of their own unique sketchbooks and artist books. This workshop welcomes all skill levels.
