Artist Bio

Eli Arenas is a studio artist and the virtual workshop coordinator at Pocosin Arts in Columbia, North Carolina. She has participated in selected exhibitions including A sense of Place, La Frontera, SOFA – Thirteen Annual International Expositions of Sculpture and Functional Art, Touching Warms the Art, and Uncontrolled Edge. Arenas has been featured in several publications such as The Compendium Finale of Contemporary Jewelers 2008, 500 Necklaces, and 500 Paper Objects. Her past residencies include the McColl Center for Art and Innovation in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Workshop Description

During this workshop students will experiment, design, and learn how to incorporate non-traditional materials such as wood, plastic, and paper and to embrace new surface treatments such as powder coating, resin, and paint to create rich and engaging jewelry pieces. Participants will explore the grounds of Arrowmont to find and secure interesting materials for class exploration. Basic metalsmithing techniques are covered including sawing, filing, cold connections, soldering, and prong setting. Open to all skill levels.
