Workshop Description

Automatic drawing is a process of entering an altered state of consciousness to explore the worldview of an artist through the medium of the hands. Gesture drawing is one example of this process. In this workshop students will learn the automatic drawing process and how to merge it with a multitude of media and mixed media, including charcoal and ink wash, conte and chalk crayon, and oil and acrylic paint on paper. Participants will create works that explore the contentious and the unconscious through automatic drawing and figure drawing. This workshop is an immersive, expansive, and tactile experience and provides lectures and demonstrations on artists such as Picasso and Cezanne and their techniques. Quiet music will accompany the workshop throughout the week. Open to all skill levels.
