Workshop Description

From a small tea pot to a large storage jar, making a properly fitting lid is a challenging process to potters. This unique hands-on workshop will focus on creating different type of lids and flanges on the potters wheel. Students will learn how to create various type of lids based on the function of a vase. Wheelthrowing techniques and surface decoration, such as inlay and carving, will be covered in class. Discussions will include understanding why shrinkage occurs and clay properties from a ceramic engineering perspective. This is not a beginner-level class, but open to intermediate to advanced-skill levels.
