Workshop Description

This workshop is designed for students to use turning as a platform for experimenting with a variety of techniques including airbrushing, pyrography, punching, and embellishing. Participants will discover a multitude of turning techniques from the use of a skew to getting grips with a bowl gouge and walk away with a multitude of wonderful creations. You will learn about form and function, tool choice, holding techniques, sharpening, health and safety, and finishing techniques that include multiple texturing, brushing with wood dyes, using milk paint, micro power carving, and metallic and ceramic effects. Class demonstrations of surface design will include using carving techniques, woodburning, and coloration using paint and dye. Your inspiration can take you to designing multi-piece figures or a piece of wall art. All techniques will be considered for executing your best ideas to create personal expression. An open forum of learning from each other will be encouraged and there will be a class outing to photograph the natural environment surrounding Arrowmont. Open to all levels, however some basic woodturning experience is necessary.
