Mold Making: Ceramics And Mixed-Media

This workshop will introduce students to basic mold making, modeling and casting. The focus is on making small molds and sprigs using a variety of approaches. During class participants will create plaster molds, bisque molds and rubber latex molds for use with clay. You will use silicone rubber molds to cast non-clay materials and positives will be created with clay, plasticine, chipboard and found objects appropriate for the different mold making materials. Students will also experiment pulling forms from the molds with casting slip, clay, white plastic, wax, cement, paper pulp and pewter. Ceramists, sculptors, 3D Design instructors and K-12 teachers can benefit from participation. Open to all skill levels.

Paul Andrew Wandless is an artist, author, educator and curator who operates his studio in Chicago, Illinois. Wandless authored “Image Transfer on Clay,” “500 Prints on Clay, Image & Design Transfer Techniques,” and co-authored “Alternative Kilns & Firing Techniques.” He frequently writes for several arts magazines and is featured in the DVD, “Fundamentals of Screen Printing on Clay with Paul Andrew Wandless.” He conducts workshops and lectures around the U.S. and Canada on his clay work, prints, sculptures, paintings and drawings.

Registration Fees

There will be a one-time $50 non-refundable registration fee which enables you to register for as many workshops as you like during 2020. All cancellations must be made in writing by mail, fax or email (no phone calls please).

A cancellation fee of $100 will be charged on cancellations received more than 45 days prior to the start of your workshop. Cancellations received 45 days or less prior to the beginning of the workshop receive no refund of deposit.
