The Magic of Vat Dye Discharge

In this workshop students learn the magic of dyeing silk fabric with acid dyes. This includes learning about the results of the interaction of chemicals, color theory, design, carving images on Styrofoam, printing and processing of the fabrics. Demonstrations and discussions cover hand painting on Styrofoam, stamping and hand painting on carved images, altering colors with Silk Dye (Peboe), and stitching and embroidery techniques. Students will leave class with designs and color choices on silk fabric that are discovered from their own imaginations. Open to all skill levels.
COURSE FEE: $525
Janet Taylor lives in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, in the Blue Ridge Mountains where she operates her studio. She recently retired from university teaching after 40 years. Taylor is part-owner of a Co-Op Gallery in Asheville, called Ariel. She is a former board member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild.
