Sketch and Stretch: Building Illustrated Pottery

September 16, 2018 – September 22, 2018

Chandra DeBuse

During this workshop students learn new ways of designing, building and illustrating pottery by working with soft clay slabs. You will translate sketches into forms through hand building with simple templates and molds made from paper, craft foam, wood and bisqued clay. After forming, participants will create layered, colorful surfaces through underglaze inlay, brushwork, sgraffito and texture. Students will encounter numerous examples ranging from historical ceramics to contemporary illustration to spark ideas toward incorporating their personal voice into clay. Bring your sketchbook and be ready to embark on playful discovery of form and surface techniques. Open to all skill levels, however some experience with clay will be helpful.

COURSE FEE: $525
