Islamic-World Papermaking and Natural Dyeing
July 29, 2018 – August 4, 2018
During this workshop students discover the history and techniques of Islamic-world papermaking that has remained largely unchanged since the 8th century CE. This method links papermaking traditions of the East with those of the West. Students will focus on sheet formation and will combine traditional papermaking with natural dyeing to create beautiful results. Those finished papers will be further dyed, sized and burnished by hand to a high shine. You will leave class with a sampling of papers displaying the wide range of possibilities of this technique. No prior papermaking experience is necessary.
COURSE FEE: $525
