In this class students are introduced to controlled warps in wood using steam-bending techniques and equipment. Using hardwoods such as oak, ash, walnut and cherry, students will experience and participate in unbelievable permanent bends using compression straps and plywood jigs. Students will then utilize these techniques along with the various woodshop tools and equipment to craft beautiful, hand-made sculpture. Open to all skill levels.

Jackson Martin received his BFA from Middle Tennessee State University and his MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea, Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts and Pratt Institute Sculpture Park. He has taught at East Tennessee State University, College of Charleston and Penland School of Crafts. Martin now lives in Asheville, North Carolina where he is an assistant professor of Art at the University of North Carolina.
