Narrative Drawing

July 8, 2018 – July 14, 2018

Ian Brownlee

In this workshop students use the figure as a starting point for telling stories. Working with narrative, it’s easy to remember that art is a type of play. You will begin drawing sketches to push your technical abilities, then use those sketches as the basis for larger works. Participants will discover different drawing techniques and materials, including painting and collage. Working from live models, photos and natural objects, students will build on their strengths to find an artistic voice. Open to all skill levels.

Ian Brownlee is a painter and muralist based in Asheville, North Carolina. He received his BFA from the Atlanta College of Art, and studied at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. His work has been featured in many publications, including New American Paintings.
