The Utilitarian Clay VII Symposium Presenters and Invited Artists Exhibition features 34 works by the 17 symposium Presenters – international and national ceramic artists whose work represents some of the most diverse utilitarian work being made today. Each of the 17 Presenters was asked to invite a clay artist who is making strong functional work and on the cusp of ’emerging.’ The 85 works from the 17 Invited Artists highlights both traditional and contemporary utilitarian work being made by the next generation of potters. This exhibition of works by both the Presenters and the Invited Artists underscores the UCVII Symposium and Arrowmont’s mission of enriching lives by developing and fostering awareness, appreciation and self-expression.
Held every four years since 1992, Arrowmont’s Utilitarian Clay Symposium enjoys a national reputation within the ceramics community. Celebrating and appreciating the limitless interpretations of the utilitarian clay object, the Symposium attracts those who are interested in the aesthetic and theoretical issues with making functional objects as well as the more practical concerns related to the filed.
