Arrowmont is proud to showcase work made by their 2017 – 2018 Artists-in-Residence, Xia Zhang, Emily Culver, Paige Ward, Elyse-Krista Mische and Max Adrian, to mark the mid-point of their residency. “Arrowmont is one of the best opportunities I’ve ever been granted. So far it has been a privilege to gain valuable professional skills, network with more artists in a few months than I’ve seen in my lifetime, and to have the time and space to make new work among peers. This is the real deal, I will leave here a better artist” says Mische. Paige Ward spoke of her experience at Arrowmont, stating, “This residency has been very rewarding and revealing. It has given me the opportunity to experience many facets of working in the arts; from pursuing my own work, shows, teaching, and working in the gallery, this residency is revealing to me where I enjoy working most in the arts. Being a part of the community and mission of Arrowmont this year has just been a tremendous blessing. Working alongside my fellow residents has been both encouraging and inspiring.”
The Artists-in-Residence Program provides early career, self-directed artists time, space and support to experiment and develop a new body of work in a creative community environment. Each year, five artists of different media are selected for the eleven-month program, which begins mid-June and continues through late May of the following year.
