“Each piece of wood is distinctive and I make choices in tandem with the unique traits of the grain pattern found inside each tree. I make my own segmented veneer that is inspired by traditional brick lay patterns used to build houses and buildings. To me, the brick symbolizes our inherent human ability to manipulate organic material to build modern structures that shape society. The conversation between humans and nature illustrates our true dependency on the resources that make up our world. My pieces showcase the natural beauty of the tree and I want to draw attention to the complex human manipulation that wood undergoes to take the form of fine furniture.”
