Artist Bio

Donna Woodley is a visual artist and educator in Nashville, TN. She is an instructor of art foundations at Tennessee State University. Donna received her MFA from Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts and BFA from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. Donna has exhibited her paintings and other works nationally with one international exhibition under her belt. Most recently, she exhibited in a group show at Middle Tennessee State University. Donna’s portraits are included in Vanderbilt University’s Trailblazer’s Initiative classes as well as in the Margaret Cuninggim Women’s Center collection. She has taught workshops at Arrowmont as well as Tennessee Arts Academy. One of her recent accomplishments was initiating and providing logistics for the inaugural performance of the National African American Wind Symphony in Boulder, Colorado sponsored by the NAACP Boulder County Branch. donnawoodley.com

Workshop Description

Do you have trepidation or hesitation surrounding painting faces realistically? If so, this is the workshop for you! Here we will experience the joys of painting faces using oils. This workshop will start with an overview of the use of oils, color and value, and some basic exercises in representational painting. We will simplify the face into basic shapes and values making it easier to achieve painting portraits in a representational way. Students will complete multiple portraits at the conclusion of the workshop. Open to all skill levels.
