Melissa Lovingood

Melissa Lovingood is a metalsmith and educator. She earned a BFA in fine/studio arts from San Diego State University, and has taught at the University of North Dakota, the University of Texas — Rio Grande Valley, Georgia Southern University, High Point University, and taught and was gallery director at North Iowa Area Community College. Currently, Melissa works as the Metal Teaching Artist and Program Coordinator at Brockway Center for Arts and Technology in Brockway, PA.

A fundamental aspect in my own work is the development of individual expression through metal. As a metalsmith I consider function to be an important aspect in my jewelry, wearable art and objects. I design jewelry that can be worn comfortably on the human body; so implicit in the design process is the awareness or the interaction between object and body, as well as the history of personal ornament and its relation to ideas of individual identity.
