Exploring The Art of Broom Making ・ Mark Hendry・ Special Topics
Learn the Traditional Appalachian Art of making brooms from the ground up, as you prep broomcorn, learn about harvesting & finishing handles and constructing a variety of broom styles including whisks, sweepers & besoms; each a unique & functional piece of Art! As time allows we will explore more artful, sculptural broom design, and all will leave with the know-how to make brooms at home. Open to all skill levels, but moderate hand and upper body strength are needed.

Mark Hendry is a full-time artisan specializing in historic handcraft with a focus on using natural materials. With over 30 years of experience as a professional teacher of fine and performing arts, both in private, public, and magnet schools, Mark travels throughout the country teaching all levels and ages. He teaches regularly for the John C. Campbell Folk School, is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and is the director and resident artist for Mountain Heritage Handcraft, located in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
