Coiled Basketry Using Various Materials ・Clay BurnetteBaskets

Explore the endless possibilities of coiling by first creating a closed coil basket using rope and yarn, then progress to open coiling with longleaf pine needles and waxed linen thread. Focus will be on the use of simple materials that should be readily available to almost all socioeconomic groups. Teachers will come away with coiling techniques that can be adapted for many age levels. Focus will be on various wrapping, patterning, texturing and stitching styles. No previous coiling experience is needed. Open to all skill levels.

Clay Burnette has spent over 40 years developing his personal approach to basketmaking. His longleaf pine needle baskets have been included in over 250 exhibitions throughout the US and abroad.
