Chair Caning and Seat Weaving ・ Brandy Clements・ Chair Caning
Students will discover the ancient and global craft of chair caning. From ancient Egypt and China to rural Appalachia, the craft is rooted in geometry, botany, physics, world history, economics, and design. During the workshop students will complete a hand-woven caned chair. Chairs are provided, or students can bring their own. Explore the traditional 6 way pattern or play with a star or daisy pattern. Open to all skill levels.

Brandy Clements is a fourth-generation chair caner and an ambassador of the craft of chair seat weaving. She and her husband, Dave Klingler, operate Silver River Center for Chair Caning in Asheville, North Carolina. The school is an official education center of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and is the only chair caning school and museum in North America.
