Cate Johnson・ Fibers
In my work I explore the intersection of childhood and adulthood. Themes of memory, dreams, joy, and introspection shape my work and my message. Using weaving and fibers, I explore how the fantastical and magical can exist as a safe space in one’s mind. Using house forms, I use the definition of home as one’s mind and memories, not the physical structure or the people who surround a “home.” My prerogative is to explore the relationships between individuals and what makes them feel comfortable in child-like spaces. In my installations, my work strives to be a full bodied experience, reflecting themes of nostalgia and childhood joy. Inclusivity of the audience, especially between ages, is my goal, for I want everyone to feel at home in my work.
