December 6, 2021: Trudy’s message of service and yearend support for Arrowmont

“You’re the heart and the passion behind the services that we [at Arrowmont] do. Without your support, we don’t have the resources at all times that we need in order to really be of service in the intentional, thoughtful, and deliberate ways that you would have us be. So we need you to join with us. Any gift is appreciated, and we thank you.”

November 24, 2021: Trudy’s inclusive vision for the future

Executive Director Trudy Hughes shares a few moments with the Arrowmont community to discuss her vision for the future and share her wishes for a happy holiday.

“For me, a future of Arrowmont that is most positive is one where EVERYONE ANYONE ALL have a seat at the table. That’s the culture we want to create. And with grace, and kindness, and accountability, we’re going to hold one another to that commitment. We’re going to keep marching forward to be that place where everyone really does know that they’re included and accepted and a part of the organization.”

April 27, 2021: Announcing Arrowmont’s next executive director

After a national search, Trudy Hughes of Knoxville will be the executive director of Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Dr. Steven Gottlieb, president of the Board of Governors announced today.

Gottlieb said, “The Board is pleased that we attracted a candidate of the caliber of Trudy Hughes. She brings to the position extensive nonprofit management experience and a deep knowledge of the region. Trudy’s years of association with and support of Arrowmont is an important asset.”

“Further, I would be remiss if I did not express our appreciation to the East Tennessee Foundation, Trudy’s current employer, for their many years’ support of Arrowmont. ETF is an important member of the Arrowmont community and a major contributor to East Tennessee’s quality of life,” he continued.

Hughes, a native of East Tennessee, has been vice president of regional advancement at East Tennessee Foundation for the past eight years. Prior to her tenure at ETF, she worked with children’s advocacy organizations, held adjunct positions at several regional colleges and universities, and early in her career worked in banking. She holds bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Human Services and a master’s degree in Community Counseling from the University of Tennessee—Knoxville and Chattanooga.

“I am most honored to begin my service with Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Arrowmont has been a significant organization to me since my childhood. I look forward to the opportunity to be engaged daily to encourage, motivate, and assist others as they aspire to develop their creative talents,” Hughes said of her new position.

Reflecting on her time at ETF, Hughes said, “My years at East Tennessee Foundation have been wonderful as we worked as a team to enhance philanthropy across the region, assisting individuals, organizations, and communities as they address opportunities, challenges, and needs.”

Hughes will begin her work at Arrowmont the first of July 2021.
