Plowing the Ground/Planting the Seeds – Establishing the Woodturning Program at Arrowmont

In 1995, Kathy Lindquist interviewed Mark and Melvin Lindquist about the early history and development of the woodturning program at Arrowmont.

It was through the formation of the woodturning program at Arrowmont that Mark recommended a national conference for woodturners – and in 1985 with the help of David Ellsworth, Mel Lindquist, Stoney Lamar, Bob Rubel, Al Stirt, and Michael Monroe – to name a few – the initial AAW Conference was conceived.

Arrowmont is proud to be attending the 33rd American Association of Woodturners conference this weekend in Raleigh, NC. Check out the full interview with historic pictures and letters below, and visit us at Booth T10 if you’re attending AAW this weekend!
