EPISODE 9 – MATT MONACO
I talk with woodturner and 2021 Arrowmont Instructor Matt Monaco on this podcast. Matt discusses his transition from jazz drummer to woodturning, and how he became a professional woodturner over time. Matt is on a very short list of younger woodturners, who early on in his stages of development, apprenticed with and assisted masters of the craft – turners like Richard Raffin – https://www.richardraffan.
Matt operates a full time woodturning studio in Southwest MO, and makes dedicated collections & custom series vessels and containers for the interior design industry, regional craft shows, and for collectors using woods from the Ozark Mountain Range.
He’s been turning wood for over 15 years, and apprenticed for 5, with training that includes working with acclaimed masters of the craft early on in his early development. He demonstrates for national woodturning clubs of the AAW, teaches hands-on & private workshops nationwide, has taught woodturning on the college level and represents and works with Glaser Hi-Tec Tools.
