Arrowmont Craft Conversations: Figurative Symposium & Community Building through clay

In the fall of 2018, New York artist Elissa Bromberg met Asheville couple Jean Shortall and John Olsen at Arrowmont’s third Figurative Symposium. It was their first time at Arrowmont, but it wouldn’t be their last.

They were drawn together through the experiences they shared at the Symposium and an admiration for the presenting artists – particularly Arrowmont instructor and 2016-17 Artist-in-Residence, Richard W. James. The three new friends decided to enroll in Richard’s 2019 figurative ceramics workshop.

All four artists share their reflections on the community they built through their connection to clay and to Arrowmont in this Arrowmont Craft Conversation. Click the image below to watch the conversation or visit https://youtu.be/vKKFklF3p0Q.
