Tiffany Hunyh Vision Intern

Are you currently in school?
I’m a junior going into senior year at University of Louisville for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture.

What drew you to the vision Internship?
While viewing the position details, I was drawn to the opportunity to work with Arrowmont’s youth outreach programs and also learning more about the arts administration side as an artist. This opportunity also presented with working with other departments, such as studio management, programming, marketing, etc.… As an artist in the forefront myself, I also wanted to gain more understanding of positions that are “behind the scenes” that run the school. They are also vital positions in the school, and it intrigued me that I could also work with them, whilst working with ArtReach programs. So, by applying for the Vision Internship, I was drawn by the invaluable experiences I could have with working in these positions.

What do you hope to achieve during your internship?
I hope to learn more about each department to be able to grow my skillsets and apply that to my future values as an arts educator. These include skills that are based upon working with community, planning, organizing, etc… I hope to be able to also learn more about studio management to also be able to benefit my own studio space back in Louisville.

What are your future aspirations?
A long-term goal I have is to be able to be a beneficial voice within my local community as an educator in higher education to directly impact students and help them develop their critical thinking, problem solving and creativity skills while also advocating for arts education programs in public schools. Another goal I have is to encourage myself and youth to expand perspectives, explore and preserve cultures and identities within the South and Midwest.

What makes you excited about your summer at Arrowmont?
Being surrounded by so many diverse artists that are excited to create! The community here is very welcoming and comfortable. Even though I feel a bit awkward, it is always enjoyable to listen to everyone’s journeys with creation no matter the experiences with crafting. Besides the people, I enjoy being surrounded by the mountains and lush greenery! Since I have lived within suburban and more cityscape back in Louisville, it is refreshing to be able to sit on the porch and take in the scenery and crochet.

What’s next after your Internship?
I will be graduating with my undergraduate degree at the University of Louisville and then pursuing higher education. I will take a break beforehand to thoroughly explore other options with wanting to teach within the arts education field in Kentucky by applying for more opportunities within the South and Midwest regions of the U.S

If you were a color what would it be?
Currently my favorite colors are slow blue, sharp green, and carrot orange.
