Artist Statement:
I have always loved wood. Every piece has its own unique personality and character. As a maker of wooden objects I try to partner with the wood to reveal its beauty and personality rather than imposing my will on it.
I seldom choose a piece of wood with a preconceived idea of what it will be, but rather try to find a simple elegant form within the piece and let it out.
I especially like working with wood that has some challenges…voids, bark inclusions, cracks, etc. that require me to “fix” the issue in a way that enhances the natural beauty of the wood.
Every piece I make has a purpose…sometimes it is functional but many times its purpose is simply to feed the soul of the beholder.
