Studio Assistants are an integral part of Arrowmont’s workshop program and provide support to faculty with studio preparations, as well as assist students. Although assistants may have a specific area of expertise, studio assistants will work in all studios in some capacity. Applicants for assistant positions are considered based on their expertise in a particular media as well as previous studio art experience. An assistantship is a great opportunity for artists to gain experience working in a studio as well as build skills through various classroom experiences. Assistants are able to take one week of class for each 45-50 hour week of work duty during the spring, summer and fall (or one weekend of class for one weekend of work for fall weekend sessions). Students must arrive the Friday prior to their session and stay through the Sunday after their last session. Tuition for your week (or weeks) of class as well as room and board for the length of your commitment is provided by Arrowmont. Class lab fees and other art supplies are the responsibility of the student. Classes are awarded based on availability. If it is past the application deadline, please contact Arrowmont to see if positions are still available. Applicants are encouraged to apply for more than two weeks. Educational assistance is provided to the student-employee as part of the Studio Assistantship program. As an employee of Arrowmont and for the convenience of Arrowmont, meals and lodging are provided on Arrowmont premises and must be accepted by the student-employee as a condition of their employment.
