Enriching lives through art and craft

Silk in Transition

October 1 – November 5, 2016 | Sandra J. Blain Gallery

Silk in Transition showcases 70 silk paintings by 36 national and international artists. The exhibition was created in conjunction with the Silk Painter International’s (SPIN) biennial conference “Silk in Transition” being held at Arrowmont October 7-15, 2016.  Featuring works made by SPIN members, the exhibit contains a dynamic group of silk paintings, sculptures and installations that explore a variety of themes and subjects. “Fall is a time of change. Silk art is in transition because concepts of silk art are evolving. Our boundaries are mutating and our silk canvas is in flux. What does silk painting mean to you, the silk artist, in this transforming landscape? That was the question posed to the member artists of SPIN for this year’s festival, and the work in this exhibition is their answer to that call.” -SPIN

SPIN is an international organization of silk artists, painters, practitioners and educators. Their goal is to establish silk painting as a recognized art form by encouraging and promoting the collecting, displaying, and production of silk art at the highest level.
