ArtSmart with Arrowmont

Arrowmont ArtSmart is program designed by Arrowmont School Arts and Crafts that promotes the value of art and arts education to children. Research has proven that an arts curriculum in schools contributes greatly to the overall cognitive, creative, emotional and social development of children. Arrowmont ArtSmart is the arts literacy companion to the successful Pi Phi “Champions Are Readers” program and other literacy programs. Just as reading literacy is the essential foundation for learning and success as an adult, arts literacy has been proven to develop more productive, expressive, flexible, problem-solving individuals.

This simple but imaginative activity gives children the option to create fun book designs using familiar materials such as wrapping paper, cardboard, ribbon, beads, rubber bands and glue sticks. Conducted by Pi Phi clubs and chapters, The Accordion Book, Rubber Band Journal, Star Book and Pamphlet Stitch book can all be created and customized within a one-hour workshop. The books can be used for scrap booking, illustrating a story, alphabet books, vocabulary books, journaling and much more. This activity would be great in conjunction with the Philanthropy Round of Recruitment.
