Utilitarian Clay V: Celebrate the Object
National Symposium September 10-13, 2008 The first Utilitarian Clay: Celebrate the Object Symposium held 16 years ago, commenced the exploration of a theme that has challenged makers throughout history. Held only every four years at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, the Symposium continues to appreciate the limitless interpretations of the utilitarian clay object, with consideration to both its literal and subtle role in the everyday. Utilitarian Clay V will host 17 nationally known potters to share technique and exchange ideas through demonstration and discussions. The intimate size of only 200 attendees feels more like a gathering of old friends and colleagues than strangers. Keynote speaker Polly Ullrich, presenter’s demonstrations, panel discussions and four exhibitions will spark your imagination and stimulate conversation. The exhibitions feature the works of the 17 presenters, works of invited clay artists chosen by the presenters, and a variety of other select pottery exhibitions on the Arrowmont campus, will compliment the four-day special event. Explore all of the facets of the symposium through these links: Presenter's Gallery Registration opens April 16, 8:30 am EST by phone, fax and in person. Because attendance is limited, registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. No early registrations will be accepted. Click here to download a registration form.
